Improve Your Oral Health With Dental Cleanings in Issaquah

The American Dental Association, along with Dr. Cristescu, recommends regular dental cleanings at least every 6 months. Our dental hygienists start your appointment by gathering information from you in order to give you the proper care specific to your needs. This can range from an easy adult cleaning, periodontal maintenance, or a deep cleaning.

Infant Visits

This is your child's first chance to meet Dr.Cristescu. You and your child will go for a ride in the chair. The Dr. will examine both their teeth and gums. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions regarding your child's oral health or nutrition. Eating patterns and the choices in food we eat play a role in whether we get tooth decay and/or gum disease.

Children Cleanings

We are honored to do our part in keeping your child's smile healthy and happy. At their cleaning appointment we will not only clean their teeth; but teach them the basics of how to keep their teeth clean. We have many flavors of toothpaste for your child to pick from and they will have so much fun they won't even know they are learning important facts that will last them a life time. The sooner your child learns the importance of brushing and flossing their teeth on a regular basis the longer their smile will last!

Orthodontic Cleanings

While you have braces it is most important to keep up with your brushing and flossing as well as visit your general dentist for regular cleaning and check-ups to avoid developing gum disease or cavities while restoring your beautiful smile.

We stress the importance of using a fluoride supplement to help prevent cavities while your braces are on.

Ideally, we can take your arch wire out to clean your teeth; this means you need to set up an appointment with your orthodontist for after your cleaning appointment. Without arch wires we can update your xrays and clean your teeth more effectively.

Adult Cleanings

This is a cleaning in a healthy environment. If you brush, floss to keep your gums and teeth healthy; and see your dentist on a regular basis, you may fit into this category. Our dental hygienists will gather information at the start of each cleaning to make sure we individualize each visit to fit your personal needs. You will leave with a clean, beautiful smile.

Deep Cleaning

If it has been a while since your last dental visit, and you have noticed a build up of plaque and tarter on your teeth you may fit this category. If plaque has been allowed to sit on your teeth and gums for one reason or another, it will start to harden from the minerals in your saliva. This hardened plaque is called tarter or calculus. If this occurs the bacteria in your mouth will multiply in these areas and create an increase in bleeding. This is called gingivitis. Your body tries to fight off the extra bacteria accumulation by sending blood cells to the area. This is why your gums will bleed easier.

According to the Centers for Disease Control over half the adults over the age of 30 have some form of gum disease. If gingivitis is present for an extended period of time the bacteria will change and keep multiplying. This will eventually lead to loss of bone around your teeth. If you fit this category, you have periodontal disease. This is when your periodontium breaks down. Once you get this bone loss around your teeth it will not grow back. A deep cleaning focuses on 1/4th of your mouth at a time. At each visit we will remove the tarter, flush the pocket around your tooth with a prescription mouthwash and make sure the teeth are as smooth as possible. Our dental hygienists will also go over your home-care routine to make sure you have every tool possible to keep your teeth healthy and clean. We want to make sure you understand and have the knowledge to maintain a healthy smile. After all four sections of your mouth are clean we will have you back in 2 -3 weeks to make sure your body has responded well to the cleaning.

If there is no bleeding left, and your gums have reached a state of health, a recall visit will be set accordingly. If there are still a couple areas of bleeding or tarter building up fast you may need a sooner recall visit. Some people come in every 3 to 4 months to keep their teeth healthy. It usually takes about 4 months for the bacteria to build under the gum-line. Gum disease is usually painless; and can go unnoticed for years. This is why it is important to see your dental professional at lease every 6 months.

Periodontal Maintenance

This is a cleaning in which you have had some form of periodontal disease in the past or present. If you have bone loss there are more areas in your mouth for the tarter to adhere to and the bacteria to hide. It is harder for you to maintain and keep your teeth clean. Therefore, we will make sure at this visit that all these hard to get areas are clean and your smile is looking great. Our goal here is to maintain the periodontium so no further boneless occurs. Some people have periodontal maintenance recall visits every 3-4 months and even 6 months is possible with great home care. At Eastside Family Dentistry our goal is to help you keep a great smile. What you were born with is the absolute best, so it is our job to answer any questions you may have. We give you knowledge, home care suggestions, and comprehensive treatment in our office.
